In the periodic table includes four new elements – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, January 5 – RIA Novosti. Periodic Table replenished four elements to the 113th, 115th, 117th and 118th atomic numbers, according to the website of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

A particular difficulty in obtaining new element was the fact that they fall into previously unknown isotopes of lighter elements that are yet to be determined. All four new elements were synthesized artificially. In nature, there are no elements heavier than uranium, that is, having an atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus of an atom) is greater than 92. They are obtained by artificial synthesis.

Scientists from the Institute of RIKEN recognized creators of the 113th element of the periodic table, which may be called “Japan.” It is noted that this is the first “Japanese” element in the periodic table.

The right to name the elements with atomic numbers 115, 117 and 118 belong to the Russian-American team of scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. New elements are assigned “provisional” name Ununpentium (ununpentium – Uup), Ununseptium (ununseptium – Uus) and ununoctium (ununoctium – Uuo), and after five months in the periodic table will their real names and two-letter designations.

The latest addition to the periodic table was made in 2011, when they were discovered elements 114-m and 116-m atomic numbers called Flerov and Livermore.
