MOSCOW, January 28 – RIA Novosti. Comets from other star systems could get to the moon and there is a chance to find their remains in the polar regions of the Earth’s satellite, said the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, head of the Lunar and Planetary Research of the State Astronomical Institute. PC. Sternberg Vladislav Shevchenko.

“The vast majority of comets, which are located in the periphery are not of solar origin, and came to us from other star systems … Such comets could get to the moon. That is not ruled out that cold traps the polar regions we will find material from other star systems, to which if you fly, then a few light-years, and while it is in the distant future. But to find at the site, which is located at a distance of about three days of space flight, the substance from other star systems – it would be the greatest discovery of modern science, “- said Shevchenko during an online conference organized by the MIA” Russia Today “.

He said that all flights in the next few years, specified in the draft Federal Space Program (PCF) until 2025, will focus on the southern polar region of the Moon, as it was there were discovered the low-temperature reservoir of volatile substances that just might get to the satellite of the Earth with cosmic bodies from other star systems.

Shevchenko explained that the other conditions on the moon there are strong temperature fluctuations. Happy in the equatorial regions of the surface is heated to 130-150 degrees plus, and in these conditions, no volatile substances are not retained in the surface layer.

According to the project FCP until 2025, Russia will hold several unmanned lunar missions, including the project “Luna-Grunt”, which involves the delivery to the Earth samples from the upper surface of the moon. From manned space programs in this period it was abandoned because of the difficult situation in the Russian economy.
