SpaceX: 1st stage of the Falcon 9 rigidly landed on a floating platform – RIA Novosti

WASHINGTON, January 17 – RIA Novosti. The first stage of the launch vehicle Falcon 9, made a “hard landing” on floating platform in the Pacific Ocean after the launch of the satellite Jason 3, the company said SpaceX.

The launch vehicle Falcon 9 was launched from the Baikonur Vandenberg (California) at 21.42 MSK. After 9 minutes after the start of the first stage was to land on a special barge in the Pacific Ocean.

“The first step in the settlement location on a floating barge, but it looks like it’s a hard landing, broken intended for planting backup” – said company in its account in Twitter.

Earlier in December, the company was able to make a successful vertical landing of the first stage to the launch site, but the two previous landing on a floating platform was a failure. SpaceX, the technology of storing the first stage booster rocket for future launches with a view to reduce the cost of space missions.
