Four new chemical elements officially added to the periodic table. Elements with atomic numbers 113, 115, 117 and 118 were verified by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
The honor of opening 115, 117 and 118 of items awarded to the team of Russian and American scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Dubna, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
discoverer of the 113th element recognized by scientists from the Japanese Institute of Natural Sciences (RIKEN). In honor of this element was named Japan. The right to come up with the names of the rest of the new elements belong to their discoverers, what is given five months, after which they formally approve the Board of IUPAC.
The four new elements were synthesized artificially. In nature, are usually observed chemical elements with atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus) is not greater than 92 (uranium). Elements with the number of protons from 93 to 100 can be obtained in the reactors, above 100 – at particle accelerators.
Last periodic table expanded in 2011, when they were added to the 114 th and 116 th elements called Flerova and Livermore.
