Russian physicists have questioned the opening of the 113th element of the Japanese – Interfax

Moscow. January 2. INTERFAX.RU – Physicists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, expressed doubts as to the priority of the opening of the 113th element of Japanese physicists from the collaboration of institutions RIKEN, writes “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.

Earlier IUPAC ( IUPAC, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry ), December 30, 2015 on his behalf released official press release on the discovery of new chemical elements with atomic numbers 113, 115, 117 and 118.

Russian physicists, meanwhile, expressed surprise at the exit of the press release before the publication of IUPAC Reports of the Joint Commission IUPAC-IUPAP ( International Union of Pure and Applied Physics – IF). Deciding What the research team (or scientific collaboration) to recognize the priority in a particular opening, adopted by these organizations on an equal footing.

With regard to the 115 th and 117 th elements, as expected, right of discovery given JINR collaboration, Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA). The synthesis of element 118 – also merit JINR and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

In the case of element 113 IUPAC gave priority to collaboration institutes RIKEN. Russian physicists were dissatisfied with this decision and to support its position have prepared a certificate, which shows the chronology of the work on the synthesis of the 113th element.

As pointed physics experiment Japanese group lasted about ten years, and to fix the birth of a new member It succeeded only four times. At the same time “in Dubna, during this period there were about 100 events of the birth of element 113 and, moreover, carried out pioneering experiments to study its chemical properties”.

Under current rules, both refines “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”, suggest its name has the right to the writing team, which was recognized as a priority of discovery. The ratio of the 115 elements of the proposal have already been announced – Muscovy, in honor of the Moscow region, which perform basic research. At 117 th and 118 th elements of the question is still open. “We will discuss it with our colleagues from Livermore and Oak Ridge” – made it clear in Dubna.

Before the Board will adopt the official names for the elements used Latin numerals: ununtrium (113) ununpentium (115) , ununseptimum (117) and ununoktium (118).
