in the Spring of this year started the mission “ExoMars-2016″ in which Mars went spacecraft Schiaparelli and the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO). Recall, TGO represents the Orbiter, which is designed to study certain features of the atmosphere of Mars.
Schiaparelli was a demonstration landing module designed for testing directly planting methods. It was provided as module no longer exists.
the separation of the two spacecraft occurred on October 16. 19 Oct Schiaparelli entered the atmosphere of Mars. The first stage of the process of descent was according to calculations. Approximately 50 seconds before landing the lander has stopped transmitting and is simply gone from sight scientists. A few days, the mission team tried to detect the device, but in the end admitted that Schiaparelli, most likely, crashed while landing. The photos below show the proposed location of the accident.
