Henry Kissinger became a member of the RAS – TASS

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. The former head of the U.S. Department of state, Nobel peace prize winner Henry Kissinger became a member of the RAS, together with six foreign holders of the Nobel prize. This was announced by academician Boris Chetverushkin, reading out the voting results of elections to the Academy.

“Kissinger, Henry Alfred,” he called Chetverushkin name of former Secretary of state among the elected academicians in the Academy. The title of academician Kissinger received for the study of global problems.

in Addition to the ranks of the Academy were joined by the Nobel laureates in physics Serge Arosh, Martinus Veltman, in chemistry, Roger Kornberg, Jean-Pierre Sauvage and Dan Shechtman, on the Economics, Kenneth Joseph arrow.

the 93-year-old Henry Kissinger – former U.S. Secretary of state and assistant to the President for national security. He is considered one of the initiators of the policy of “detente” in relations between the US and the USSR. In 1973 he was awarded the Nobel peace prize for his role in the achievement of the Paris agreement, intended to end the war in Vietnam.

after Leaving politics, Kissinger focused on writing memoirs, articles and books on the topic of foreign policy and diplomacy. Among his works – “Nuclear weapons and foreign policy”, “Years in the White house”, “does America Need a foreign policy?”, etc.

Is an award-winning United States, among them the highest civilian award – the Presidential medal of freedom.
