MOSCOW, January 26 — RIA Novosti. Scientists from Harvard University Isaac Silvera and Rank díaz has published in the journal Science a report on the creation of metallic hydrogen.

the Scientists were able to get a very small amount of matter under conditions of extremely high pressure — more than in the center of the Earth, and low temperature. They used two stones, between which is clamped the hydrogen. Now the researchers intend to gradually ease the pressure, to determine whether metallic hydrogen to maintain their status and properties.

While attempts to stabilize the state of a substance at normal pressure and temperature were not successful. However, the creators are predicting a great future material. “This is the first sample of metallic hydrogen on Earth, so looking at it, you see something that has never existed before,” said Professor silver.

the New material may find use as a conductor of electric current. “Currently, up to 15% of the energy is lost due to dispersion, but if it were possible to manufacture wire of metallic hydrogen, the losses would come to an end”, — quotes the scientist The Independent.

in addition, as expected, applies metallic hydrogen as rocket fuel. It would be about four times more efficient than all currently existing and would orbit the Earth much more massive loads than is possible now.

According to one theory, Earth’s core consists of metallic hydrogen.
