Opinion: Kiev was trying to “privatize” the past by changing the homeland of Ilya Muromtsa – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, January 12 — RIA Novosti. Ukrainian elite and historians implementing its political order, inventing the epic hero Ilya Muromets place of birth in Ukraine, tried to “privatize” the past and the General for Russia and Ukraine Kievan Russia; such attempts are ridiculous, and incompetent, because no geopolitical formation, or even the concept of “Ukraine” then there is a more recent phenomenon, says the chief editor of magazine “Historian” Vladimir Rudakov.

Earlier, the Ukrainian edition of “Vesti” reported that the Ukrainian officials have accused change of the place of birth of Ilya Muromets in Wikipedia. In December of last year officials from the Ukrainian Ministry of defense argued that the Russian hero Ilya of Murom was born near Chernigov, not under Vladimir. In Russia, the main version is that on which the hero was born in the village of Karacharovo, near Murom. But Ukrainian historians say that the Ilya Muromets is a native of Moore (Borovicka) near Chernigov, which in ancient times was called Murom, wrote “News”.

“It’s a tug on the blanket itself, a kind of “privatization” of the past which we see in a different way. This also applies to the attempts to “privatize” Prince Vladimir as the Creator of supposedly ancient Ukrainian state, which in this form is, of course, has never existed and could not exist. This attempt of “privatization” and in General the era of Kievan Rus in Ukrainian historiography, Kievan Rus is not called, because the word Rus is just a red rag,” said RIA Novosti Rudakov.

He stressed that the “dragging of the homeland of Ilya Muromets from the territory of one of the modern state on the territory of another modern state is a funny story.” Rudakov said that although Ilya Muromets and was buried in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, while his life and his death, the geopolitical formation “Ukraine”, as there was no such thing — “they later”.

According to him, part of the Ukrainian historical society after the political elite of the country in the last few years and only deals with what creates “a new history of Ukraine”. To achieve this, Ukrainian historians often rewrite rather obvious things about which the scientific community has long formed a consensus.

“Such efforts to rewrite the past, both recent and very far, look, of course, ridiculous. It is not even about the fact that they offer some alternative point of view… it’s about the fact that the very desire to rewrite history becomes an end in itself for Ukrainian politicians and historians. It is clear that it is a political order, which they are implementing,” — said Rudakov.

He added that all of this — one of a series of cases which have the sole purpose as far as possible to distance themselves from the common Russian history, but that’s what makes this story “not science, not part of the public consciousness, and subject to fraud and manipulation.”

Ilya Muromets is one of the main characters of Russian epics. According to one version, the prototype-the namesake heroes lived in the twelfth century, his relics are buried in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
