Experts said that the formation of the intestine with a length of about cm takes about one to two months. In order to achieve success, the researchers used three particular protein. Artificially grown from stem cells of the intestine, like “normal” can absorb digested food, and to absorb the proteins and water.

Experts hope that their findings could in the future be used in medicine, including in dealing with such intractable diseases as Crohn’s disease.

In recent years, technologies related to the use of stem cells are developing very actively. For example, last December the specialists of the Federal scientific-clinical center of physico-chemical medicine in Moscow, announced that they have developed the technology of growing of the retina from reprogrammed cells — skin cells turned into stem first, and then — in required. It is worth noting that many believe the reprogrammed cells preferable to embryonic, because the use of the latter, some estimate as controversial from an ethical point of view.

Experts suggest, first transplantation in clinical trials may take place in the coming year. Last summer, American scientists were the first to grow from stem cells miniature analog of the liver, which cope with all the functions of this organ.
