What is Halloween?

In the night from October 31 to November 1 in the United States and Canada, Halloween is celebrated ancient Celtic festival, also referred to as the eve of All Saints’ Day. Over the past ten years, the holiday has become popular in Russia and Europe.

The roots of the festival date back to pre-Christian times. Celtic tribes who lived in England, Ireland and Northern France, divided the year into two parts – winter and summer. October 31 thought it had been the last day of the year. This day also marked the end of harvest and the transition to the new – the winter season.
