MOSCOW, 8 Dec – RIA Novosti. the Astronomers first saw what will happen to the Earth at the time when the Sun will exhaust the reserves of hydrogen, watching the older star in the constellation of the Stern, said in an article published in the journal Astronomy &Astrophysics.

“five billion years the Sun will become a red giant and swell to larger than its current dimensions hundreds of times. In addition, it will release huge quantities of matter due to the strengthening and acceleration of the solar wind. Mercury and Venus will be destroyed, but the Earth’s fate remained unknown. Life on it, of course, will die, but we didn’t know if the Earth is alive in principle,” said Lin Decin (Leen Decin) from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).

Darin and her colleagues found the answers to all these questions, following the closest analogue to “dying Sun” – L2 red giant in the constellation of the Stern. The star is located relatively close to us, just 200 light years from the Solar system. This has allowed astronomers to study in detail the structure of its mantle, made of the matter ejected by the solar wind, using the ALMA telescope in Chile.

the Age of L2, according to range and environment, is about 10 billion years, and through 500 million years, small by the standards of space-time, it will finish to exist, becoming a white dwarf. It tells Decin, about five billion years ago that light was actually a “twin” of our Sun, having a similar size and physical characteristics.

much To the surprise of scientists, the images from ALMA have shown that around a dying star planet distant from L2 by a distance approximately equal to the distance between the Sun and Mars, about 300 million kilometers, making one revolution around the star in five years.

Scientists have discovered a planet through a kind of empty “donut” in the ring of dust and gas that surrounds a dying star. A planet revolving around a red giant, “has consumed” inside of this ring is relatively empty area, which is visible on microwave images obtained by the Chilean radio telescope.

planet Discovered, of course, is not an analogue of Earth, nor Mars. It is a large gas giant, whose weight, by calculations of authors of the article, about 12 times higher than that of Jupiter. Life on such a planet could not exist even in the conditions similar to those that presently exist in the orbits of Earth and Mars.

the Very existence of the planet from the red giant says that they can survive in such conditions, existing for hundreds of millions or even billions of years after the swelling of the sun. What would happen to the Earth, not yet known as our planet, judging from the observation of L2 was on the edge between “safe” zone, where the planet needs to survive, and the “kill zone” where they have to collapse.

Further observation of this planet, as scientists hope, will help us understand what exactly will happen with the Earth in the future and solve the mystery of whether the planet “live” up to the time of becoming a red giant into a white dwarf.
