Many experts believe that fasting is more harm than good for health. However, a recent study conducted by the American specialists from the Institute of the Tank showed that the refusal of food for a while may be beneficial to the brain. In any case, it is evidenced by the results of experiments on the larvae of fruit flies.

Researchers for some time excluded from “diets” larvae of Drosophila proteins, and then for a few hours completely deprived them of their food. Three hours later the activity of synapses (contacts between neurons) in fruit flies are decreased about two times. While experts say that ultimately this may be good for the brain because it helps him “relax” and “recharge”. While the authors tend to believe that these data with high probability apply not only to Drosophila but also in humans.
Experts believe that these data, including, will allow to struggle with such problems as epilepsy and other disorders of the brain. Their work, scientists published in the journal Neuron.
Recall that about six months ago to somewhat similar conclusions were reached by a group of researchers from the University of southern California. Experiments, first in mice and then with human volunteers showed that fasting helps the body to fight multiple sclerosis. Presumably this, these consequences of fasting, as an increase in the level of corticosterone and improving the functioning of white blood cells.
There are many other studies, the authors found these benefits of fasting – according to some, it strengthens the immune system, improves mood, enhances sleep quality and even has a beneficial effect on the intimate life.
