The three-dimensional pictures of Pluto, obtained by the camera probe New Horizons, indicate that the two most prominent mountains on its surface may be icy volcanoes, spouting a mixture of water and ammonia, said planetary scientists from NASA speakers at planetologicheskoy conference DPS in Maryland.
“It is extremely difficult imagine how changed our understanding of Pluto and its moons every week, we received a new batch of data. Pluto becomes a superstar of the solar system. Moreover, I am willing to be beaten on the bet that at least one of our two recent discoveries of our colleagues is shocking. All this is just amazing, and amazingly, “- said Alan Stern, head of the mission of New Horizons.
This is a three-dimensional pictures of the two most prominent peaks on the surface of Pluto – tops Wright Picard, of a few tens of kilometers, and height of 4-5 kilometers. They led scientists to assume that they are dealing with extinct or still active kriovulkanami that spew not hot magma and cold water mixed with ammonia.

“They are a big mountain with a big hole in their top, and the world it usually means one thing – we are faced with two volcanoes.
