Scientists have found the orchid flowers which resemble the devil’s head – BBC

Scientists have found a new species of orchids and called it Telipogon diabolicus . This unusual flower was due to name its core, the shape of which resembles a devil. This was reported by Dr. Martha Kolarovo and Professor Dariusz Shlahetko, the staff of the University of Gdansk (Gdansk, Poland), together with Dr. Ramiro Medina Trejo from Colombia. A total of 30 representatives of this species have been found on the border of two departments of Colombia:. Putumayo and Nariño. The height of the stem reaches 5,5-9 cm; core color of dark violet-purple color and looks like a demon’s head and reddish petals and characteristically curved. This distinguishes them from other species of orchids that grow in the area. Telipogon diabolicus are threatened with extinction and listed in the Red Book.

Despite the fact that the list of Colombian plants recorded almost 3600 species of orchids, scientists believe a huge number of still unknown plant. Only in 2015 was discovered 20 new species of these colors
