American and British scientists were able for the first time in the world to grow in a laboratory two-week human embryos.
According to the journal of Nature, scientists have for the first time that a human embryo has developed more than a few days without being at the same time in the womb. Previously, it was considered impossible.
The experiments were conducted by researchers from Rockefeller University in New York: 12 days embryo develops absolutely normal, although it is in the laboratory. It is a major scientific breakthrough, which can be used in the treatment of infertility, and early miscarriage. It also will help scientists understand the development of the human body and cells. This knowledge will help in the treatment of many diseases.
However, the scientists had to stop the experiment because of legal restrictions. In the US, the UK and many other countries have a “14-day rule”: human embryos can not be cultured in the laboratory for more than two weeks. Scientists from Rockefeller University are calling to cancel this rule.
