Doctors from the Mayo Clinic in Arizona (USA) compared the results of six studies involving more than 1.5 million people.
The doctors analyzed the results of studies that have evaluated the effect of meat and a vegetarian diet on mortality, reports Science Daily. As a result, they came to the conclusion that plant foods should occupy more space in the human diet.
Studies have shown that mortality increases with the consumption of red meat. This proves the study in 2014, in which life has been studied more than a million people over the 5.5 to 28 years. This evaluated the effect of a processed meat (such as bacon, sausages, salami) and unprocessed (including unsalted beef, pork, lamb or venison).
Another study found that processed meat increases the risk death from cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease.
Doctors noticed that the life expectancy of vegetarians who adhere to their diet for more than 17 years old, grows by an average of 3.5 years.
Earlier, the British scientists, on the contrary, said that giving up meat is dangerous for the human body. According to experts, the change in eating habits have a negative effect on the intestinal microbiome and metabolism. The meat contains important vitamins, their absence negatively affects the health and well-being. For example, vitamin B12 person gets mostly of animal origin.
