The extraordinary discovery shocked Austria. In the small town of Tulln was randomly found intact skeleton of a camel. Skeleton found the locals in the preparation of the construction site. It may be that the camel belonged to the Turks, who eagerly encroached on Austrian lands centuries ago.
It all started with the fact that in Tulln began preparations for the construction of a shopping center. Already at the time when he began to excavate, builders stumbled upon staryuschy cellar, dated approximately to XVII century. Objects found among the various fragments of household rubbish, was not immediately appreciated. Only later it became clear to what extent it is valuable!
Alfred Gulick, an Austrian archaeologist, has shared his impressions about the discovery. He said that he first saw the jaw of the skull. It seemed similar to the bone it some cows. Having considered the cervical vertebrae, Alfred decided that before him – was once the horse. Only limb bones uncovered the mystery of who is rested on the future site of the shopping center.
A single-cross between a camel appeared and the two-humped species. They were always a much stronger than the other camels, such as those with a hump, and those from the second. That is why they have been used as sled. The fact that this particular camel used to drive confirmed some changes in the bones that arise from the continuous wear of equipment.
How did the camel came to Europe? Who introduced him to the Schengen visa XVII century? Most likely, the camel was sold to the Ottomans, or else abandoned by retreating army of Turks after safely repel an attack on the capital of Austria in 1683. It is possible, even despite the fact that the retreating army of horses and camels, usually eaten.
Most likely, the townspeople keep animals in order to flaunt – in Austria, a camel does not happen. It is likely that because of this camel and lived up to his old age, and his bones have survived to our times.
