Tomsk, September 29, 2016, 13:04 — REGNUM Scientists of the Siberian state medical University together with the Moscow colleagues to develop a cure for high blood pressure with a fundamentally new mechanism of action. “All medicines that lower the pressure are approximately the same, affecting the long-known target. Our team of chemists were able to synthesize a substance with a new mechanism of action, therefore, the drugs that we’re working on, it has no analogues”, — said the rector of the Siberian state University for research and postgraduate training Svetlana Gusakova.
the Substance on the basis of which created the drug, is a chemical precursor of platelet-activating factor. The FAT scientists synthesized more in the second half of the last century, describing its ability to lower blood pressure. But this substance acts very quickly, giving us a momentary effect almost instantly and greatly increases blood clotting. To obtain an analogue of PHOSPHATE, suitable for the creation of medicines that tried research teams in many countries. Scientists of the Siberian state medical University and Moscow state University found another solution, not synthesizing the FAT, and the “previous” stuff. Unlike FAT, it lasts for a long time, does not affect blood clotting and may become the basis for the drug.
“This is a Russian drug that is not created as an analogue of existing, — said Svetlana Gusakova. — He has a brand new mechanism of action, new target. Over the last 10-15 years is the only newly synthesized drug for the treatment of hypertension, and no combination of already known”.
Preclinical tests, which lasted three years, proved that the drug is non-toxic. It is valid for 24 hours so a person need to take one tablet a day. In addition, the new drug does not lower the pressure if it is normal, thus normalizing elevated.
“There are suggestions that the drug will act on the form of hypertension that is currently not amenable to correction. Another plus is that the drug is not addictive, that is continues to operate even after prolonged use”, — added Svetlana Gusakova.
According to rector of Siberian state medical University, a year the developers will be spent on the preparation of documents and registration of the drug, nearly three years to conduct clinical trials. The drug will enter the market not earlier than in five years — the exact timing dependent on project funding. It is expected that the cost of the medicine will not exceed the price of existing funds from hypertension, and in the case of successful clinical trials, it will be exported.
