An international team of astronomers from the University of Cambridge, which included two Russian researchers, found and successfully tested an elegant method of observation of dark matter, which is able to shed light on the structure of this mysterious substance.

Their paper accepted for publication in the journal MNRAS. The theory predicts that in addition to large clusters of dark matter in the universe must be present and smaller pieces, so-called sub-halo with a mass of “only” in the thousands or millions of solar masses. To see the traces of the passage of these clusters, astronomers were able to, noting gaps in the tidal tail, remaining from the destruction of globular cluster in our galaxy.
 

They were able to estimate the mass flown clots and therefore impose limits on the mass of dark matter particles themselves. “One way to understand the nature of dark matter is to determine the minimum size of the structures which it forms.
