Global warming leads to the fact that the former secret military base of the US Army’s Camp Century , located in the ice in the north of Greenland, begins to “thaw.” As a result, the ocean can get harmful substances and nuclear waste, which is considered military, safely hidden by ice and snow.

According to the forecast of scientists, published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters , toxic waste can remind yourself at the end of the XXI century. By that time, the rate of ice loss could be greater than its annual recruitment through precipitation in the form of snow. In the event that the waste will fall into the ocean, it would jeopardize the ecosystem of fish and animals, on which depends the welfare of the local population.
Greenland ice sheet is now melting at a rate of 8000 tonnes per second. Thus, each year in the region is a loss of 280 billion tons of ice.
In addition to the damage to the environment, cleaning up nuclear waste could lead to political squabbles. Base built the United States, permission to do so has given Denmark and Greenland is now a self-governing territory.
However, if the problem can be solved amicably, it can serve as a model for resolving other international disputes related to climate change.
