The Chinese authorities were subjected to “Wikipedia” total censorship – REGNUM

Beijing, December 8, 2015, 14:21 – REGNUM Today, December 8, China once again subjected to blocking e-encyclopedia “Wikipedia”. The reason – the transition to a resource secured protocol HTTPS. This is reported by many foreign publications, notably Business Insider.

And, if before that the Chinese authorities limited access to Internet users in the country only to the version of the electronic encyclopedia in the Chinese language, now announced that blocked all variants of “Wikipedia”. However, according to the audit site greatfirewallofchina.org, is not available in the country so far only the Chinese part of the site.

For instance, access to resources is limited after the Encyclopedia has moved to a secure protocol, HTTPS. Because of this, to expose the source system online censorship, “the great Chinese a firewall” has become problematic.

It should be noted that earlier the founder of “Wikipedia” Jimmy Wales said that there is a possibility that an electronic encyclopedia can block in China. He said this in September, during his speech at the summit Leadership Energy Summit Asia 2015. According to him, the government of China now can not filter all the information on the resource. Therefore, he stressed Wales, the Chinese authorities will have to choose: to use the full “Wikipedia” or completely restrict access to a resource.

IA REGNUM previously reported that China blocked the first electronic encyclopedia in June 2004 for a period of nineteen days, then it was due to the protests in Tiananmen Square. Then access to resources limit several times: in September 2004 and October 2005. Ban later took off on some articles on the resource.

The Russian threat to block the site also has a place. The ability to restrict access arose from the fact that certain materials contained in the resource information on the production and distribution of drugs. Federal Drug Control Service rechecks articles for prohibited dissemination of data.
