The Magpies do not steal trinkets and fear shiny objects, according to a new study.
British scientists have dispelled the common myth that “The Thieving Magpie” have an irresistible urge to steal shiny things for their nests.
According to the research, these birds really nervous at the sight of such items. Perhaps this is due to the fact that shiny objects are unusual for the forty and presenting them may be dangerous.
The researchers conducted a series of experiments they put edible nuts around with different shiny things and watched the birds’ behavior. Of the 64 times the birds have chosen items only twice – and then discarded them, according to the Russian Service BBC.
At the same time, studies have shown that in the presence of “blestyashek” magpies ate less.
