NASA released a video test Martian lander – BFM.Ru

Supersonic “flying saucer” successfully splashed down in the Pacific Ocean

The American space agency NASA has released a video test apparatus called Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator, for moving cargo from Earth orbit on the surface of Mars. Clip posted on video sharing site YouTube.

The device in the form of the disc with a balloon was launched to an altitude of 55 km, where the Earth’s atmosphere is similar to the density of the Martian. After that, he began to descend to the earth’s surface, revealing a parachute. “Plate” splashed down safely in the Pacific.

As it turned out, the recording was made in June, and all the while kept secret. Currently, scientists are working to improve the agency parachute design.

As previously reported, NASA refused the offer of the Russian Space Research Institute installed on the rover’s next-generation device for active neutron and gamma probe, which has no analogues in the world. Now a similar device operates successfully on Mars rover Curiosity, which should be replaced in 2020 to reach a new device.
