MOSCOW, 24 Nov — RIA Novosti. Archaeologists have discovered in the historical region of Upper Egypt an ancient city and a cemetery was created, according to experts, in the year 5316 BC, according to Agence France-Presse, citing the Ministry of antiquities of the country.

“the size of the tombs found in the city, often exceed the scope of the tombs of the first rulers of Egypt from Abydos, which indicates the importance of those people who were buried in this unknown city, and their high social status in the first periods of existence of Ancient Egypt”, — said the representatives of the Ministry, whose words, reports British newspaper the Guardian.

As noted by the Guardian, yesterday, the Ministry of antiquities of Egypt announced the opening of a new settlement of the ancient Egyptians, which is near Luxor, on the opposite Bank of the Nile, 400 meters from the place where was built the temple of Pharaoh SETI I, father of the famous Ramesses II.

the city, according to Egyptologists who discovered it, was associated with Autocom, the first capital of Ancient Egypt, and its study may help scientists to understand how was built this “metropolis” and why it was abandoned after the reign of the fourth dynasty of pharaohs.

Excavations of the new city, as the Ministry has only recently started, but archaeologists have managed to find some foundations of huts and other dwellings, a large number of pottery shards and other traces of pottery, as well as many tools. As scientists hope that this discovery and the new artifacts that they hope to find in this city, will revive the interest of tourists to Egypt, a noticeable decrease in recent years due to terrorist threats.
