On the ISS fully deployed inflatable module for NASA astronauts – Rosbalt.RU

The International Space Station has successfully deployed an inflatable module BEAM. This was stated in the management of Aeronautics and US space.

“We confirm the completion of the deployment of BEAM operation up to full volume”, – stated in the Mission Control Center. This module is designed for living space station crews. A previous attempt to deploy the module has failed.

Convertible habitable module significantly expands the scope of the astronauts in orbit workspace. Inflatable designs in folded position have good weight and size, which is an advantage when breeding them into orbit existing and future launch vehicles, as well as transportation to the launch site by rail and air transport.

In the unfolded state of the working volume of the module for the ISS is 100 cubic meters. In the future, residential and warehouse modules of more than 250 cubic meters for the orbital base and interplanetary orbiters can be created on the basis of this design.
