ISS made the 100,000th orbit around the Earth – RBC

The International Space Station (ISS) made its 100,000th orbit around the Earth. This is stated in the message the Mission Control Center.

Treatment Revolution lasted from 7:35 to 9:10 MSK. The average height of the ISS today is about 400 km away, and a complete revolution around the Earth takes one and a half hours.

Now the ISS consists of 15 special purpose units, making it the largest engineering design, collected man to orbit the Earth.. ISS weighs more than 400 tons, and dimensions allow to completely cover the projection of a football field.

ISS is a permanently inhabited since 2000. Under normal circumstances, both at the station do not work more than six people (two crew “Soyuz” ships).

To date, planned duration of operation of the ISS is expected until 2024. Over the years, the station will be expanded with scientific equipment and new modules for continuing and expanding the work of a multi-purpose space research complex.

March 18 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome launched spacecraft “TMA-20M Soyuz”, which is delivered to the ISS Russian-American crew. At the station we went cosmonauts Alexei Ovchinin, Oleg Skripochka and astronaut Jeffrey Williams.
