NASA revealed evaporate rocks on Mars – Charter’97

NASA picture shows huge boulders on Mars covered evaporating carbon dioxide.

This process is taking place in the southern hemisphere of the planet, is the end of winter, reports Lenta.ru.

Huge boulders are located on the ground, covered with sand dunes. Sublimation (transition from solid to gaseous state bypassing the liquid) carbon dioxide occurs under the influence of sunlight. Place sublimation can be seen on the dark spots in the picture.

At the moment five stations are located in the orbit of Mars. Three of them – the US: Mars Odyssey (2001), MRO (since 2006) and the MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN, 2014). On the Red Planet surface are US rovers Opportunity (2004) and Curiosity (since 2012)

Rover Opportunity -. Record for uptime and Curiosity unit – the worst planetary rovers (its weight – 900 kg) . To Mars sent to Russian-European station ExoMars-2019 includes the orbiter TGO (Trace Gas Orbiter) and landing demonstration module Schiaparelli. The station is to reach the Red Planet in the middle of October 2016.
