Six volunteers from Europe and the United States will spend 365 days on the slopes of a dormant volcano Mauna Loa in Hawaii, its landscape remotely resembles Mars. Subjects will be able to go outside only in space suits.
According to the scientists, everything has to be very close to the incredibly real flight to the red planet.
The commander of the crew was an American Carmel Johnson , dealing with the difficulties of Soil Science and Environment in the State of Montana.
This is the fourth attempt of the American NASA launch a similar experiment in the first 2 scientists surrendered after four months on the 3rd – in two more. Having an agreement to imprisonment, the scientists thus help their employees understand the risks associated with any prolonged journey to the Red Planet. Experts sent to Mars, are the following professions: soil scientist, physicist, engineer, biologist, doctor or architect. The first two groups of volunteers have lived in Hawaii for 4 months. Also, participants will be engaged in the study of psychological and medical dilemmas may encounter crew. Start the next round of the experience developed by NASA and the University of Hawaii, has been appointed for August 28. The organizers believe that the experiment will help to prepare an expedition to Mars, which NASA plans to perform in 2013-ies.
This experiment will be the 3rd to Western scientists, and the longest in duration.
