Archaeologists suggest that the main part of the wall of human skulls – the bones of the enemies of the Aztecs, whom they sacrificed and decapitated. It is important to note that the skull belongs mostly young men, but there are also the remains of women and children, however, are much smaller.

The construction of buildings is as follows: 34-meter-high wall of a solution of lime, volcanic gravel and sand is located at a depth of two meters. A central part of the skull are laid in the shape of circle.

The wall dates from the late XV – early XVI century, and the language of the Aztecs called “tsompantli”, said the coordinator of the archaeological program Raul Barrer. Probably the building – part of the Great Tenochtitlan tsompantli – the capital of the Aztec Empire, which was located in what is now Mexico City.

The archaeologists explained that the wall was most likely destroyed when the land of the Aztec Empire came the Spanish conquerors. The construction can be seen after the excavation.
