MOSCOW, December 5 – RIA Novosti. British astronaut Timothy Peak intends to become the first man who will run the marathon on board the International Space Station (ISS).
The peak is going to run a marathon April 24 next year, will be carried out when the London Marathon. In order to overcome the weightlessness, Peak will use special straps that will capture and hold it in position on the track, said the publication Independent.
In 1999, astronaut ran the London Marathon in 3 hours 18 minutes.“I do not intend to set personal records. I set a goal to run for three and a half – four o’clock,” – said Peak.
NASA astronaut Sunita Williams is currently the only person who ran a marathon in space. Williams ran a marathon on a treadmill in 1997 during the Boston Marathon.
The ship December 15 will deliver to the ISS a new crew of Yuri Malenchenko (Roscosmos), Timothy Kopra (NASA), and Timothy Peake (European Space Agency), the start will take place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
