In the Arctic Ocean changes occur that indicate the beginning of a new geological era, say scientists from the Norwegian Polar Institute, the leading research of the ice cover in the Arctic for several years. This was reported by the BBC.
Director of the Institute Jan Gunmar Winter said a gradual transition to a different state of Arctic ice: ice that previously covered the ocean throughout the year, begin to melt in the summer. And in a separate part of the waters of the ice cap disappeared altogether.
The US scientists said they have evidence the lowest area of glaciers in the Arctic during the winter months in the history of satellite observations.
According to the Norwegian scientist Jan-Gunmara Winter, young ice, which is becoming more increased the speed of the drift: Now the ice is drifting faster than a hundred years ago.
