The largest in Russia monument to the scientists opened in Chernogolovka – TASS

MOSCOW, December 23. /TASS/. President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Fortov and the mayor of Chernogolovka Oleg Egorov inaugurated in the Central square near Moscow naukograda the largest in the modern history of Russia the monument to the scientist. The monument depicts the founder of the chemical physics and Nobel laureate Nikolai Semenov and his associate, corresponding members of RAS Theodore Dubovitsky.

the Monument is a complex of bronze sculptures of scientists, each with a height of over four meters, and a sculptural “account” – chairs with the attributes of scientists and the massive table layout Chernogolovka size of 3.5 by 2.5 m.

“On this monument are two of our outstanding contemporary, two people who have made a fundamental contribution to modern science, – Nikolay Nikolaevich Semenov and F. I. Dubovitsky. On this monument they will always be together as they walked together in life, in science… People were very different but they were United on one thing: a love for science and desire to make our science great for our country,” said FORTS during the opening ceremony of the monument.

Inspiration and inspire

the author of the composition – the sculptor Artem Rodionov, whose workshop he worked in particular on the design of Moscow metro stations “Sretensky Boulevard”, “Mayakovskaya” and “Slavic Boulevard”. Rodionov told TASS that he wanted to portray the mastermind and inspired by, the situation in science, “when one thinks and the other does.” Semenov is depicted in the pose of the person offering the idea, and was in response to the temperature changes right sleeve.

“This is the most significant monument of the scientist in modern Russia”, – said the mayor of Chernogolovka Oleg Egorov.

Funds for the monument were collected by chernogolova, people from the scientific community. In the framework of the project a website was created http://ilovechg.ru, designed to tell the General public about the role of scientists in the creation of Chernogolovka.

the Founders of chemical physics

Semyonov and was established scientific center in Chernogolovka exactly 60 years ago in 1956. Dubovitsky supervised the construction branch of the Institute of chemical physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the city of Chernogolovka.

Nikolay Nikolaevich Semenov – an outstanding scientist of the XX century, the only Nobel prize winner in chemistry from the Soviet Union and Russia: he received this award for the creation of the General theory of chain reactions in 1956. Organizer and active participant of the Soviet atomic project. Creator and Director of the Institute of chemical physics, USSR Academy of Sciences, together with Pyotr Kapitsa, he founded the Moscow Institute of physics and technology (MIPT). In 2016, marks 120 years since the birth of Semenov. In addition, this year marks 60 years since receiving the Nobel prize and the 60th anniversary of the founding of their largest in Russia of the Institute – Institute of problems of chemical physics.
