Scientists from Moscow state University made unprecedented resonance – Lenta.ru

Physicist Andrey Shirokov of Moscow state University named after Mikhail Lomonosov, participated in the theoretical study, which is substantiated by the obtained experimental low value of the energy of tetraneutron — short-lived particles consisting of four neutrons. Article scientists published in the journal Physical Review Letters, briefly about it it is reported in the press release received by the editors”.ru”.

Scientists have developed and applied new theoretical approach to the study of resonant States in nuclear systems. First, this method was used for simple tasks, and then the authors applied it to the study of tetraneutron, which decays to four particles.

According to the scientists, the energy of the resonance is 0.84 megaelectronvolt, the width of the resonant States is estimated at 1.4 megaelectronvolt, which corresponds to the time of his life about five to ten to the minus twenty-second degree of the second. The theoretical results obtained by scientists are in line with experiments.

“Note that we have in any theoretical work predicted the existence of resonant States of tetraneutron at such low energies, of the order of megaelectronvolts,” reported first author Shirokov.

In 2002, French scientists in the experiment on a Large national heavy ion accelerator in Caen recorded six events that could be interpreted as the formation of tetraneutron. Again to obtain such particles failed physicists in the Factory of radioactive ions in the Japanese Institute of physical and chemical research.
