an international group of researchers, which included experts from the British Durham University, NASA experts and a number of scientists from other educational and research organizations, introduced the largest of the current map of the visible Universe. The map contains information about billions of sources of light that can be seen from Earth.

Experts for many years collected information with the help of auto system Pan-STARRS. Included in her telescopes able to detect as visible light and near-infrared. The amount of data collected is more than two petabytes, or two million gigabytes. According to the creators of the map, is about one hundred times more of all information contained in Wikipedia. Biggest map contains information about approximately three billion light sources, including stars of the milky way, other galaxies, and so on.

Experts report that the new card will be available to researchers around the world, and hope that it will help to find answers to many facing today’s astronomy questions. This, according to experts, is studying the Solar system, and about the research of our galaxy, and even a deeper understanding of the processes occurring in distant corners of the Universe. Perhaps the information will get even a “practical” application, allowing advance notice of potentially dangerous for the Earth asteroids.

Researchers are continuing the work next year, plan to submit another set of data collected in the framework of the project Pan-STARRS.

In June 2016 with auto-telescope Pan-STARRS 1, a group of astronomers from NASA have found an asteroid called 2016 HO3, which is quasistatic our planet. It is orbiting the Sun, but because of the characteristics of the trajectory he’s already almost a hundred years revolves around the Earth, and according to calculations, will not leave her, at least a few centuries.
