MOSCOW, 5 Dec — RIA Novosti. Russia has fully complied with all its obligations under previously concluded contracts on the transfer of the Russian research reactors to low enriched uranium, said to RIA Novosti, the official representative of Rosatom.
He added that no new contracts to sign is not planned.
Wednesday published a decree of the Russian Cabinet, from which it follows that Moscow was suspending the agreement between Russia and the USA on cooperation in scientific research and development in nuclear and energy spheres.
“under the agreement study on the possibility of conversion of the research reactors we have fulfilled all obligations under the signed contracts. New contracts are planned, since the artificial conversion has costs, in particular makes it less efficient production of medical isotopes,” — said the representative of Rosatom.
He noted that “under the agreement on scientific-technical cooperation of the partners was not made a single concrete step in the force imposed by the US sanctions regime”.
“this (cooperation) for two years is “sleeping in nature”, — said the Agency interlocutor.
Translation (conversion) of research nuclear reactors with fuel based on highly enriched uranium fuel from low-enriched uranium necessary from the point of view of ensuring the regime of non-proliferation of fissile nuclear materials.
the agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the USA on cooperation in scientific research and development in nuclear and energy spheres were signed on 16 September 2013 in Vienna. As noted by Cabinet, the agreement specifies directions of scientific-technical cooperation in the field of use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, including nuclear safety, designing of nuclear power plants, innovative types of reactor fuel, the use of nuclear and radiation technologies in medicine and industry, radioactive waste management.
under the agreement was scheduled to conduct joint operations with the American specialists who would contribute to mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and provide a savings of time and resources in conducting fundamental and applied research in this field.
