Brian Cox, physicist and broadcaster from the UK has proposed an explanation of the fact that mankind has still not met with aliens. According to the scientist, people are not the only intelligent beings in the history of the Universe, however, a more ancient civilization that could visit Earth or contact her, in fact, long ago destroyed ourselves.

back in 1950, famed physicist Enrico Fermi formulated the paradox, later named after him. Scientist are forced to think about the fact that in the Universe there are a huge number of planets, and theoretically many of them life could arise much earlier than on Earth. At the same time over billions of years an alien civilization could be so developed that colonized space would be the space around them, and to ignore them would be impossible. However, still people never met with aliens. This, according to Fermi, means that either mankind’s understanding of the Universe, or the results of observation must be incorrect.
According to Brian Cox, to resolve the paradox is possible if to take into account that civilization over time, creates a huge number of threats to the life on the planet. Therefore the researcher does not exclude that at some stage a nuclear war, radical climate changes or any other disaster of this kind could cause the disappearance of each of the ancient alien civilizations.
According to the researcher, if the assumption is true, this again emphasizes the importance of the development of technological progress, not far behind, and political development of a society that would allow humanity to deter threats, which is a “side effect” of progress.
Brian Cox as a scientist is known, including the fact that taking part in a number of experiments at the Large hadron Collider at CERN.
