Muscovy joined the periodic table, and three new elements – RSUTE

Russian scientists will join the periodic table by two new elements – Muscovy (Mc) with atomic number 115 and oganessiem (Og) with atomic number 118. Their names will have to honor the city of Dubna and academician Yuri Oganesyan, who is known for scientific research the synthesis of new elements.

A total of the periodic table will make a name four new chemical elements synthesized in the nuclear research Joint Institute (JINR) in Dubna.

«We are extremely pleased what specific point on the map and the names of countries, cities and scientists will be reflected in the names of these four elements. Although some may consider such names sign of excessive narcissism, they are quite happy with us in terms of the rules of the IUPAC “- Jan Redeyk said (Jan Reedijk), representative of the Union

element with atomic number 113 will be named”. Nihon »(Nh) – in honor of Japan, whose nuclear physicists first to receive this material, with the assistance of Russian researchers. Japanese scientists, according to the press service of the IUPAC, thus hoping to restore public confidence, lost after at the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster

elements with atomic numbers 115 and 118 receive “Russian” names -. They will be called “Muscovy” (Mc) and “oganessiem» (Og) in honor of the Moscow Region and Dubna, where the JINR, as well as in honor of academician Yuri Hovhannisyan, under whose leadership was synthesized more than a dozen of superheavy elements.

number 117 element, jointly established by Russian nuclear scientists and their American colleagues at the National laboratory behalf of the Lawrence Livermore, will be named “tennessin» (Ts) in honor of the State of Tennessee, where this laboratory.

The new elements have been verified and added to the Periodic periodic table in January 2016. Initially, three of the four elements had the following names: Japan, Flerov and Livermore. All of them have been synthesized artificially. In nature, usually observed chemical elements with atomic number – the number of protons – not more than 92 atoms to the number of protons from 93 to 100 can be prepared in reactors 100 above – only for particle accelerators
