Muscovy join the periodic table – Lenta.ru

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has assigned the name of the four new elements that were previously opened team of Russian and American scientists, as well as researchers from the Japanese Institute of Natural Sciences (RIKEN). Now the periodic table supplemented 113th member – Nihon (Nihonium, Nh), 115 m – Muscovy (Moscovium, Mc), 117 m – tennessinom (Tennessine, Ts) and the 118-m – oganessonom (Oganesson, Og). This was reported on the website of the IUPAC.

The Union explains why it was chosen such names. For example, the Nihon comes from the word “Nihon» (Nihon), which in Japanese literally means “Land of the Rising Sun” – another name for Japan. That scientists from that country opened the 113th element. Muscovy and tennessin were identified by geographical location of the places where they were first synthesized. Oganesson also got its name in honor of Yury Oganesyan -. Russian scientist, specialist in the field of experimental nuclear physics, which is known for its scientific work on the synthesis of new elements

The new elements have been verified and added to the periodic table in January 2016 of the year. Initially, three of the four elements had the following names: Japan, Flerov and Livermore. All of them have been synthesized artificially. In nature, usually observed chemical elements with atomic number – the number of protons – not more than 92 atoms to the number of protons from 93 to 100 can be prepared in reactors 100 above – only for particle accelerators
