MOSCOW, Feb 6 — RIA Novosti. the decision of the Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) on the recognition of homeopathy pseudoscience has caused controversy: some are ready to support its limit, others argue for the necessity of a more detailed study of homeopathy.
Homeopathy (from the Greek ὅμοιος — “like”) is a method of treatment related to the regulative types of therapy aimed at restoring vitality of the body due to activization of processes of self-regulation, leading to recovery. The main principle of homeopathy – “Similia similibus curentur” meaning “like cures Like”. The founder of homoeopathy called the German Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.
Doctors-homeopaths and their patients believe that the microscopic (“homeopathic”) dose of a substance that causes the disease, illness, and cure.

the Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences to combat pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research in his Memorandum recognized homeopathy pseudoscience, noting that “the treatment of minute doses of various substances used in homeopathy, has no scientific Foundation”. The Memorandum explains that “this conclusion is based on a thorough analysis of publications in scientific journals, clinical study reports, summaries and systematic reviews”.
the Russian Academy of Sciences said that “the principles of homeopathy and theoretical explanations of the mechanisms of its alleged actions are contrary to known chemical, physical and biological laws, and convincing experimental confirmation of its effectiveness do not exist”. But researchers note that homeopathy is not harmless: people who spend considerable sums on non-performing drugs and neglected means of treatment, with proven efficacy, which can lead to adverse outcomes, including death of patients.
In the Memorandum urged the health Ministry to withdraw from use in state hospitals homeopathic medicines, as well as introduce them spectrochrome and a separate display in pharmacies.

As the Director of the Department of public health & communications Ministry of health of Russia Oleg Salagay, the Minister Veronika Skvortsova was instructed to form a working group to develop proposals for the further regulation of the region taking into account modern international requirements of evidence.
“We proceed from the fact that in the framework of the treatment process and public procurement should be used only drugs with proven clinical efficacy. In this regard, on behalf of the Minister of health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova, the Ministry will establish a working group that includes representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, leading medical institutions and specialists in the field of homeopathy”, he said.

Minister of education and science Lyudmila Ogorodova during a press conference on Monday said that the Agency will consider the inclusion in the award “For loyalty to science” nomination for achievements in the fight against pseudoscience. She noted that currently the list of nominations already have the award, which is awarded for the promotion of pseudoscience. Unlike the winners of other nominations that receive 100 thousand rubles, it is not a cash prize is awarded.
the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) has supported the decision of the wounds on the recognition of homeopathy pseudoscience. The Ministry said that it will be able to protect citizens from false advertising of homeopathy, claiming the presence of homeopathic medicines of medicinal properties, only in case of introduction by the Ministry of health of the relevant amendments to the law on circulation of medicines, precluding homeopathic drugs from their structure.
In the FAS explained that now, under the law on circulation of medicines, a homeopathic remedy is medicinal. In accordance with the law on advertising it is not allowed: an indication of the healing properties (it has a positive effect on the disease) the object of advertising, except for such instructions in advertising of medical drugs.
As stated by RIA Novosti, the Director of “IMS Health Russia and CIS” Nikolay Demidov, the Russian market of homeopathy in case of imposing restrictions on its implementation can “go dark” and lose 15 to 20% of turnover.

Scientists and proponents of using homeopathic remedies have to continue the dialogue on the topic of study of the usefulness of homeopathy, the head of the social Committee of the Federation Council Valery Ryazansky, noting that while “the final point in the conversation between the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctors and people who believe homeopathy to put early”.
“I would not so easily write off traditional medicine, and invited scholars and followers using homeopathic remedies to continue the dialogue, work to study useful properties of homeopathy have to continue”, he added.
Deputy of the state Duma, the former chief sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko said that homeopathy “is not always amenable to scientific explanation.”
“It (the report) gives ground for the Ministry of health once again objectively evaluate the right to exist in this segment of medicine. Maybe this will give impetus to a deeper study of those effects that gives homeopathy… In the end, all the medicine once made their way through the thorns,” — said Onishchenko.

According to homeopaths, the attack by the RAS is not unexpected, since homeopathy has been under attack all time of its existence.
“How much there is homeopathy, as it attacked. So one can hardly say that this is something absolutely unusual that it was thunder from a clear sky. Anyway, most important thing, what we call each other, is to exercise restraint and intelligence,” — said the Chairman of the National Council for homeopathy Alexey Karpeev.
He noted that in the Monday meeting of the Presidium of the Board of the National Council for homeopathy, where a decision will be made about how to respond to the statement, Russian Academy of Sciences.
“We’ll talk in relation to behavior. There are many opinions on how to do it — to snap, skip past the ears or react. Anyway, I am sure that no sharp steps we take will not, in this respect,” said Karpeev.
He also said that the organization which he heads, has not yet received an invitation to take part in the working group of the Ministry of health, but are ready to take part in the work.
