British scientists have allowed genetically modified human embryos – Information Agency “Khakassia”

The Office of Human Fertilisation and Embryology UK (HFEA) approved the authorization to use the new technology of genetic modification of human embryos Institute of Francis Crick, according to the website of the scientific establishment.

The study, led by Dr. Cathy Niakan will study what genes are required for the successful development of the embryo. In the course of experts will examine the development of the egg in the seven days after fertilization – during which time she can share a single cell up to 250.

According to the statement, the data obtained as a result of this work will play an important role to improve the technique of in vitro fertilization (IVF), and may help in the treatment of infertility by conventional methods.

Director of the Institute Paul Nurse said he was glad to approval of the application. “Proposed by Dr. Niakan study is important for understanding how to develop a healthy human embryo, and enhance our understanding of the IVF procedure through monitoring the earliest stages of human development – from one to seven days”.

In accordance with the directives of the HFEA all donor embryos will be used only for research purposes and will not be further podsazheny women. Donors will perform patients undergoing IVF – excess embryos produced during the procedure, after obtaining the full informed consent of the donors will be used in the study.

A team of doctors Niakan now need to get approval from the ethics committee and, if it is is received, work will begin within a few months.
