The opening of British scientists: only GMO rice will save us from starvation – REGNUM

London, December 1, 2015, 12:15 – REGNUM The fast-growing and undemanding to the conditions of the environment of GMO rice – the only and last hope for the salvation of mankind from death by starvation in the future for a long time, say British scientists. This was reported in the press service of the fund Bill and Melinda Gates.

Display the GMO rice in the framework of C4 Rice Project, which began operating in 2008. Now the study of special varieties of rice entered the third phase, all planned four stages of research. The penultimate stage – the study of regulatory mechanisms, which are necessary for the genetic modification of rice.

One of the leaders of the scientific work on the removal of GMO rice, Professor Jane Langdale explained that the next 35 years, humanity will need almost twice as much rice to feed themselves. This is due, according to her, with high rates of population growth and urbanization. Therefore, the professor said that she and her team hopes to solve this problem.

The product according to the type of photosynthesis – class C3, which, scientists believe, is a whimsical crop. The problem researchers in studies is to change it to the class C4. This will increase the production of cereals by 50%, and this will make the rice more unpretentious and growing.

By the group of scientists to realize the project is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance, because the transition of the majority of plants from Class C3 photosynthesis to the next is associated with an evolutionary factor.

Experts managed to successfully install the biochemical and morphological components of the plants responsible for photosynthesis class C4, during the first two phases of the study.

The research is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The project involves 12 research institutions from eight countries.

Previous IA REGNUM informed about the recent discoveries of scientists Britain. So, British anthropologists as a result of long experiment found that singing whose roots are from the old, originally was needed so that people can quickly find a common language and comfortably interact in society.

Also, IA REGNUM Recalls at the beginning of November this year, British scientists have found that brain activity increases when looking 3D-video, and this process is more dynamic than when watching traditional 2D-videos and movies.
