Russian “Proton-M” successfully launched a satellite into orbit – BBC Russian

Russian carrier rocket “Proton-M” was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, and brought into the desired orbit a communications satellite “Express AMU1″.

It is expected that within a few hours maneuvering the satellite will be released at a given point in the geostationary orbit, where it will operate next 15 years.

Initially, the launch of “Proton” has been scheduled for the day before, but was postponed due to high winds at the launch site.

The current launch was the 18th and last in this year’s launch of the carrier rocket “Proton-M” from Baikonur in Kazakhstan.

In May of this year, “Proton” exploded during the first minutes of the flight, not failing to put into orbit the Mexican satellite. After the incident starts “Proton” again it was briefly delayed to determine the reasons for failure.

In recent years, a major accident at start carrier rocket “Proton-M” occur annually, which has resulted in Roscosmos additional costs for reinsurance risks.
