BelTA Tass head of the laboratory of cosmic rays variation of the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation, NV Pushkov (IZMIRAN).
“The outbreak started at 16:00 MSK and lasted for more than three hours. We can not yet say exactly what the flow rate of the ejected particles, but it is likely that this stream reaches the Earth as every New Year’s Eve “, – he said.
The probability of a large magnetic storm is also linked to the fact that the outbreak occurred in an active area, located in the center of the solar disk. Streams coming from this area typically reach the earth for two or three days.
Scientists IZMIRAN will update the forecast on Wednesday, when there will be more information on emissions of particles and the direction of their flow.
