Pope Francis urged mankind forever renounce war and called the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a constant reminder to humanity of the need to ban weapons of mass destruction. During traditsoinnoy Sunday sermon in the Vatican, he said that this tragic event for so many years, causing horror and disgust. “The bombings of the Japanese cities have become a symbol of immense destructive power of man, when he misuses of science and technology, and has become a permanent warning to humanity, so that it always rejected war, banning nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction” – quoted by AP pontiff. Pope Francis urged the faithful to make every effort to promote peace, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence of peoples.
As reported by “Kommersant” in Nagasaki held events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city . A memorial ceremony was held with the participation of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and guests from more than seventy countries. Exactly at 11:02 (5:02 Moscow time) – the exact time when detonated over Nagasaki atomic bomb capacity of 21 kilotons – participants of the ceremony honored the memory of victims minute of silence. This was the largest number of participants in the history of the ceremony.
