The lead coffin in which lay the body of a woman was found on the territory of the former monastery in the French city of Rennes. It is planned to build a convention center, but before scientists were given the opportunity to conduct scientific research. The discovery was made in 2014, and it took another year for archaeologists to organize the information.
Total at the site was found 800 graves contained skeletons and various historical artifacts. Only one body was preserved in excellent condition: a large part of the hair, skin, internal organs and brain remain intact. Perfectly preserved and shoes, clothing – a modest monastic attire.
On this and other features were able to establish the identity of the woman: she was an aristocrat Luisa de Kuang (Louise de Quengo), who died in 1656. Her husband, a knight and one of the most powerful nobles of the French region of Brittany, had died seven years earlier. Then the widow went to the monastery, where he spent his remaining days. In a special case, which is located at the feet of the deceased, it was the heart of her husband. Scientists explain that a century ago, it was customary to leave “in memory” vital organs of deceased relatives.
The remains possible to learn and medical history of the woman. To his 67 years it has been a number of diseases, including kidney stones and cause of death was an infection.
The body of Louise de Kuang was not zabalzamirovno: it is perfectly preserved due to the tightness of her coffin. After its discovery scientists had only a few days on the conservation of the finds. Upon completion of all scientific research is planned to rebury the remains of one of the cemeteries of Rennes.
