Media: a solar-powered aircraft Solar Impulse 2 successfully villages in India – RIA Novosti

NEW DELHI, March 10 – RIA Novosti. The aircraft Solar Impulse 2 is used for the movement of the sun’s energy, successfully landed in Ahmedabad, India on Tuesday night, completing the second phase of the flight, according to the Indian agency IANS.

According to the agency, Solar Impulse 2 landed in Ahmedabad at 23:45 local time (21:15 MSK). After Ahmedabad airplane travel to other Indian city – Varanasi.

Earlier it was reported that before the Solar Impulse 2 has successfully completed the first of the 12 stages of the world tour and landed in the Omani capital Muscat. Solar Impulse 2 took a flight from Abu Dhabi on Monday morning. As reported on the official website of the project Solarimpulse.com, the first stage lasted a little over 13 hours. Pilots Solar Impulse 2 – Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard – linger in Oman to discuss environmentally friendly technologies with local governmental and non-governmental organizations, universities and schools.

After India plane is scheduled to go to Mandalay (Myanmar), and Chongqing Nanjing (China). Then the Solar Impulse 2 cross the Pacific Ocean with a stop in Hawaii, landed in Phoenix and New York. Overcoming the Atlantic Ocean, the plane will stop in Southern Europe and North Africa and returns to Abu Dhabi. Round trip takes five months.

The aircraft Solar Impulse 2 was presented to the public in April and successfully tested in June this year. Its wingspan is 72 meters, weight up to 2.3 tons. Resistance of single aircraft covered 17.2 thousand solar panels that produce energy to supply the electric motors of the aircraft. The maximum speed of the aircraft – 140 kilometers per hour.

In addition, the plane prepared to fly in all weather conditions, including the intersection of cloud zones. In this case, Solar Impulse 2 may cross the zone of turbulence, the company said.

The first long flight of the aircraft on solar energy held on 7 April 2010. Then the Solar Impulse was able to hold in the air about 75 minutes. In May 2013 Solar Impulse flew without stopping for 26 hours, breaking the record for a 1.5 thousand kilometers.
