To protect against cybersquatters and orderly conduct start of a new domain zone “.rus”, its administrators decided to give the owners the right to priority in .ru recording relevant names “.rus” . This was at a conference on national domains of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe, said Fedor Smirnov, marketing director of “Russian Names” (the company – the administrator of the new domain). Because the names in the area .ru – in the Latin alphabet, and the “.rus” – Cyrillic transliteration have to use international standards.
Domain “.rus” is positioned as intended for the Russian-speaking communities around the world. According to the registrar, he has passed all the necessary approvals from international corporation ICANN, the international regulatory domain space. It was expected that priority registration of names in it will start on September 1, but this term has shifted due to internal procedures in ICANN.
When registration starts, it will be divided into several stages. Initially, priority check-in will be held for trademark owners, made to international deposition trademarks ICANN, then the same will be able to make the owners of brands registered by the Russian or international procedure. After this legal entity will be able to register domains that match their names, and domain owners .ru – consonant names in Cyrillic. All of these steps in the sum will last 4-5 months.
– These measures are designed to protect domain names and brands from cybersquatters – said Smirnov. After the start-up phase will begin open registration phase – when loved idle domain will be able to take anyone.
According to the company registrar Ru-Center Andrei Vorobyov, the idea is to give the owners of the domains in .ru the right to register in tune with the new address in Cyrillic zone was discussed even before the start of the domain “.rf”.

At the start of the domain zone “Ukr” priority registration could use 16 categories of users, says Yuri Kargopolov, head of procedural committee Ukrainian Network Information Center . But not all used this opportunity.
– The market has changed, and you need to play it differently. Policies and tactics that we used before, should be changed. Need to respect the interests of existing businesses and enable them to protect the business, and use it or not – that’s their business – summed Kargopolov.
