VORONEZH, November 16 – RIA Novosti. Scientists Voronezh State University have developed a “hard water” – a special sorbent that can be applied to the soil instead of the usual irrigation on lands with arid climate, said on Tuesday the Russian university.

arid climate – as the problem of the Voronezh region, and many other regions of Russia. Weak irrigated soil significantly affects the fertility of land and agricultural land.

“The chemists of the Voronezh State University offered … instead of the usual watering applied to the soil a special sorbent. Soaked water beads will give moisture to plants,” – said in a statement. Thus, significantly reduced the cost of water needed for irrigation.

The drug is a small-sized pellets 1 kg which is capable of absorbing at about 500 liters of water, and the granules themselves are increasing about 100 times. The action of the sorbent based on the properties of water. Water enters the polymer matrix forming a connection with its walls, and acquires the ice structure that allows it to be secured in the sorbent. That is why the polymer is called “hard water.” When the humidity level around the pellets is reduced, due to the matrix break, changing the structure of the liquid, which is why it enters the soil.

According to the university, the advantage of a sorbent such as “hard water” compared to conventional drip irrigation is “Economic efficiency of its use”.

“If you use polymer shrinking consumption of water when watering the plant, the frequency of irrigation and water volume by more than 50%. In addition, water-soluble fertilizers, plant protection absorbed polymer is not washed out of the soil, reducing the economic costs “, – informs the HRT.

The development of the Voronezh State University has a number of advantages compared to foreign counterparts.

” With the new process for the preparation of the sorbent , which have in high school, the value of “hard water” will be significantly lower than that of counterparts – only 10-12 dollars per kilogram, while the price of the foreign product is up to 20 dollars and above, “- said HRT.

In addition, the development of Russian scientists from the soil is able to absorb not only water but also minerals and water-soluble fertilizer. Thus, during the absorption of moisture from the sorbent plant roots can be satisfied, and nutrients. Sorbent granules do not break in the winter, so they do not need to be removed from the field during the cold season.

Voronezh State University is one of the largest universities in Russia. It includes 18 faculties, which enrolled more than 20,000 students, including – of the 75 subjects of the Russian Federation.
