The city of Reading in the UK created a unique greenhouse, which contains about 400 species of hybrid cacao trees. British breeders brought them in an attempt to find the perfect “chocolate tree”, which can grow and bear fruit successfully on the island of Great Britain.
Scientists from Britain are trying to solve the problem of shortage of chocolate in the world. And it exists? Yes, if someone does not know. This is made of cocoa chocolate in all countries of the world represented in the proper quantity. The reason is simple – uncomfortable engineering sweet treats.
The cocoa beans are collected in the underdeveloped countries of the equatorial belt of the Earth and the slow sea are sent to recycling centers – Europe and America. As a result, 30% of the crop is spoiled in transit or rotting in warehouses.
To solve this problem, the British set out to grow the cocoa tree, which grows right next to the places of manufacture sweet product. It must be resistant to the temperate climate and various diseases.
To do this, in England established a comprehensive center for research and breeding of these plants. Botany breed new types of trees. The pace of work stimulates serious funding from chocolate manufacturers.
Soon, scientists will select the best representatives of greenhouses and planted them the Nordic countries. This will allow to establish and expand the continuous production of chocolate. Let’s hope enterprising researchers will be able to feed all of humanity favorite delicacy.
